This morning I opened my eyes at 6:29 and got up to help the kids get ready for school. Not that they need much help these days. They set their own alarm, jump in the shower, and get dressed on their own. (Have I mentioned that I really enjoy this age?) I sat and talked with them as they ate breakfast, instead of making their lunch like I meant to. I think we were out of bread anyway, so I decided they could just buy lunch today. Before we were out the door, the kids brought me their folders and progress reports to sign. I was very happy to see that Carson's teacher, Ms. Bratcher, had commented, "Carson always has a great attitude and shines his brightest academically, and lately, behaviorally as well!" He had a rough first semester behaviorally, but has turned things around beautifully. I made a big deal over each of the kids good reports, especially the great character qualities each of their teachers complimented them on.
Then we were out the door. (I may or may not have run out the door ahead of them and told them to wait to come out until I got in my place. Maybe. Maybe not.)
When I got home, Aaron was up, which was kind of unusual for a Monday because that's his day off and it's a rare opportunity to sleep in.
We took turns making our coffee, and then we went and sat on the couch together to talk and to read. I always look forward to our slow Monday mornings.
We took our time getting ready this morning, and eventually got out of the house around 10:00. Aaron took me to the AT&T store to upgrade my phone, which I've been putting off for ages. I got an iPhone 5s. It's gold and white. Aaron thinks it's ugly. But I like it.
After that long ordeal was over, we went to Freebirds for lunch. It was really good, as always.
Once lunch was over, it was only 11:30, and Aaron asked what I wanted to do. The weather was (once again) amazing, so I said that we should go to Government Canyon and walk/hike. We went home to change real quick and then we hit the trails at GC. We set our sights on the far far back of the Backcountry and took off. After about 3.5 miles (maybe more), we finally reached it! And then, we looked at our watches and realized that we were going to have to book it to get back to pick the kids up on time. Initially, we were pretty sure we'd be fine. But as the miles wore on, we realized we were definitely going to be late. We walked incredibly fast up and down the rocky trails. Our feet were starting to hurt. As 2:35 neared, and then passed, we decided we'd just have to run. So we did. When we got to the car and sat down, I could barely breathe. But we did manage to get to the school just before the kids went inside. And we weren't the absolute last parents there (just second to last), so we felt pretty good about that! Needless to say, I did not get a picture when we got back to the car like I had planned. With the exception of that last part, we had an incredible time walking the trails and hanging out together. Date days are always so fun with this guy!
After we picked up the kids from school (Carson only fussed at us a little for being late, and Abby didn't care at all), we went home and Aaron and I collapsed while the kids did homework. Then the boys sat down and went through Aaron's old baseball cards that Poppy gave to Carson last night. They went through every card, talking about each player, and Carson was so interested in all of it. It was cute! I started dinner not long after that (Pork Scaloppine with Mustard Pan Sauce, Green Beans, & Couscous), and we ate together. Then the kids ran outside to play with water guns (or was it just one big water gun?) on the trampoline.
The kids are in the playroom playing right now, and I'm about to go tuck them in to bed. It's been a full day, and I think I'm going to sleep well. I cherish Mondays and the chance to take it slow before another crazy week begins!

I love these post but they also make me sad..... I remember all the days we spent together with the kids and dinners together.... I miss you and those times!!!!
