Journal Entry (06/19/2002)

I came across this old journal entry on my computer today as I was clearing it off.

19 June 2002
So, the past several days Aaron Powers and I have been hanging out -- a lot.  It is quickly becoming a daily thing.  I guess we really started hanging out about a week and a half ago when after small group he, Rachel, Jeff and I all went to Starbucks for coffee.  Jeff and Rachel left, but he and I stayed until they kicked us out.  Then the following Wednesday he, Rachel and I went to Starbucks again and hung out.  Then this Sunday I missed small group but I met Aaron and Daniel at Starbucks (yet again) just to hang out and catch up on things.  Daniel left and then, once again, Aaron and I stayed until we got kicked out at 11:00.  Then, we proceeded to go to Wal-Mart because we both had things that we had to get.  We walked around for a while and then bought our stuff and then we stood out in the parking lot until 1:30A just talking and laughing.  We laughed a lot.  We developed all sorts of our own personal jokes, etc and I had more fun than I have had in a really long time.  It was fantastic.  He's great.  Monday I got his e-mail from Sandy and dropped him a line.  Tuesday, I got to work and there was an e-mail from him and it totally made my day (see following).

Date:    6/17/02Re:       Tired to a multiple of 1,000 :)
While waking up at 6:30am after being up till 2:30 does indeed need to be ripped out of the list with a frightening quickness, surprise e-mails from Breanna in the middle of the day DEFINENTLY needs to be added. Very fun. Thanks for the line.
Wow, bold and different, huh? Well I have no doubt that if anyone can pull it off, it is you. It's that whole "seeking the adventure" thing that you have going for you. The only thing I sought all day was a nap, but we were soooooooooooo busy (that is so to a multiple of 6, by the way) that I could do nothing but my job. Can you imagine, having to work at work? Needless to say I was disappointed. I think that I may recover, though.
So my mom just came upstairs and told me to tell you that ya'll have to run 2 miles tomorrow because she is, and I quote, "a disgusting fat pig." Her words, not mine.
Well, it appears that I can keep you for too long even in an email, so I will let you go. I was thinking, if you get a chance this week, perhaps we could get together for lunch, or for a cup of coffee after work or something. I think that would be fun. And middle of the day fun, to boot. That is a whole different breed of fun. Let me know what you think. You can e-mail me, but I don't check those until the evening b/c ours at work is broken, or you could call me. My cell number is 872-7257 and I have that on all the time, even at work.
Any who, I will run off now in search of the dark side of my eyelids. Talk to you soon. Had tremendous fun last night.
Sleep deprivation isn't so bad, is it???
Your partner in fun, Aaron
ps- I called the church and left a message for Sean to call me re: Chouth opening. I really prayed and feel like it is where God is calling me to serve, so if you get a chance, maybe pray that God's will become TOTALLY evident in the situation. Thanks. bye-bye :)

So, I called him about 11:00 yesterday to see when he wanted to do lunch and he said, "How bout today?!"  And I said, "cool".  So we met at Chili's and, of course, had a great time talking and laughing... and he paid for my lunch, which was nice.  We were there a long time.  Then, when I got home, he had called me and said, "Hey, give me a call."  So, I did.  Daniel was over watching a movie and so then Aaron came over too.  Then Daniel had to leave to go pick up the youth from the airport (they'd been in Germany) and Aaron and I decided to go get ice cream.  We went to Brindle's (the BEST) and sat outside at one of the tables for a long time and talked.  It was a BEAUTIFUL night!  Then we went to this place he sometimes goes to on the outskirts of town and its on top of this big hill and you can see all the city lights from there, which was very cool.  We drove up there and looked at the stars and such for a little while.  Then we decided to see if we could make it to the church in time to welcome all of the Germany kids.  So we drove to church, but all the kids had already been picked up.  So then, we went to the other side of town to go to another place that had a really good view of the city.  We also toured Aaron's little corner of the world from when he was younger.  Then we drove around randomly for a while.  Then he took me to see Tommy Lee Jones' house.  Then we drove around some more.  And more.  Then, at about 2:00 we decided to go to Wal-Mart.  (There's always stuff to do there!)  We walked around there for quite a while.  We played with the balls and tried on hats and all that fun stuff.  We laughed our heads off.  Then we went and sat outside on the patio furniture until we decided we should go home around 3:00 or so.  I think I got home at 3:15 this morning.  My alarm went off at 6:31.  Talk about feeling like I've been run over by a truck!  As the day has gone by though, I've gotten better.  Anyway... late this morning he sent me an e-card with a nice note in it:
"Hey!! ...Just wanted to drop a line to say how much fun I have had these last couple of days.  I think you are awesome.  Have a WONDERFUL EXTRAORDINARY day and I will see you tonight after church.  Take care, God bless you!!  always, Aaron"
Then, just before lunch, he called me at work just to say hi.  (To be continued)
